About the Author, John W. Phillips, LTC, US Army (Ret.)

JOHN W. PHILLIPS has had a distinguished career in both military and civilian service. John is a retired US Army Field Artillery officer and Comptroller with 20+ years of service in Corps Artillery, Division Artillery, Army Headquarters and Forces Command, the largest command and the generating force provider for combatant commanders – at home and abroad. He has served in Europe, throughout the Middle East and the United States. He has been awarded the Legion of Merit, Meritorious Service Medal, and the Air Assault Badge.

John is a mid-level finance executive and has worked in corporate finance, program and project management, and sales roles in a Fortune 50 Company located in Atlanta, Georgia. In his spare time, John spends his time trout fishing in the mountains of North Georgia or Sailing in the British Virgin Islands. John holds a BS in Finance from University of Central Florida and an MBA from Syracuse University. John lives in the Atlanta area with his wife, Melissa.


Paul FalconePAUL FALCONE is an HR executive and has held senior-level positions with Nickelodeon, Paramount Pictures, and Time Warner. He is a the author of several best-selling books published by the American Management Association (AMACOM Books) as well as the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM), including 101 Sample Write-Ups for Documenting Employee Performance Problems, 101 Tough Conversations to Have with Employees, 96 Great Interview Questions to Ask Before You Hire, 2600 Phrases for Effective Performance Reviews, and 2600 Phrases for Setting Effective Performance Goals. He is a long-term contributor to HR Magazine and faculty member in the UCLA Extension School of Business and Management. His newest book, The Performance Appraisal Toolkit: Redesigning Your Performance Review Template to Drive Individual and Organizational Change was released in 2013. Paul holds his bachelors and masters degrees from UCLA.
